Half Nelson Traditional British Navy Rope Dog Lead
Four centuries of skill have gone into making this stylishly original rope dog lead
Created exclusively for us at the last remaining British Royal Navy Dockyard, this excellent rope dog lead is a fitting testament to British naval supremacy during the Age of Sail.
The mighty British Empire relied upon generations of expert ropemasters to supply this vital commodity. Rope had to be of the highest quality and tied by men who’s lives depended on the reliability of their craft.
Throughout the 19th century, a British Royal Navy First Rate Ship-Of-The-Line required over 30 miles of rope for steering, gunnery, and virtually all aspects of life at sea.
Our lovely Half Nelson dog lead (best suited to small-medium hounds) uses 10mm natural hemp sailing rope produced on the Victorian ropewalk still used at the beautifully preserved historic Chatham docks.
Over 400 years of naval rope-working heritage has gone into our Nelson range of hemp dog leads. This traditional navy rope dog lead is finished by hand without clamps, glue or stapling – relying upon the tier’s skill to ensure it holds steady and true.
We are immensely proud to offer you this enduring example of authentic British craftsmanship, helping to keep alive a tradition that helped build an Empire. If you’re looking for a great conversation piece, this is it!
Distinctive red whipping provides a nice contrast colour to the natural fibre. Total length is 140cm. Solid brass clip and O-ring in the handle. HOUNDWORTHY red leather logo tag.
Best suited to smaller to medium-sized hounds. For larger dogs consider the Full Nelson dog lead instead.
